Context

The MRT Department’s research and technology activities target two main areas : nanomaterials and nanotechnology and sustainable polymeric and composite materials.

The Nanomaterials / Nanotechnology Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) unit addresses specific technology fields like transducing materials for sensors and actuators, photocatalysis, energy harvesters / suppliers, transparent electronics and conductive / optical nanocomposites, point-

of-care and drug delivery. These activities relies on state-of-the-art clean-room laboratory facility. Internal research is pushed towards the "proof-

of-concept" based on prototyped devices. In parallel, new synthesis processes and nanomaterials integration are developed in order to achieve unique elaboration capabilities and materials properties leveraging the innovation of advanced products.

In the framework of an industrial project with an american company, we are currently looking for a well-motivated candidate to perform PhD research.

Description

The aim of the PhD thesis is to develop new cathodic materials to be integrated into porous membranes developed by the company.

The PhD work will address both the fabrication of materials (based on Atomic Layer Deposition technique and electrochemical growth in ionic liquids) and their characterization (electrical, mechanical, microstructural etc.

It will combine a fundamental investigation of the interaction between the materials properties and the electrochemical storage performances.

The PhD thesis will be registered in the University of Luxembourg. The selected candidate will have to work during a non-

negligible time into a glove box.

Education

  • Master degree in material science, electrochemistry, physical-chemistry or closely related fields
  • Competencies

  • Experience in wet and gas phase based fabrication methods, (electroplating, ALD and / or CVD growth), Li-ion cell electrochemical characterization and work in glove box environment would be appreciated
  • Personal skills : collaborative skills, initiative, result oriented, organization, and capacity to work in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Language

  • Fluency in French and English (spoken and written) is a must
