The J.P. Morgan Legal Department seeks a general regulatory and advisory lawyer for the Private Bank Legal Group in EMEA.

The role will be based in the Luxembourg office of J.P. Morgan Bank Luxembourg S.A. and is an exciting and varied opportunity to provide general legal coverage to J.

P. Morgan Private Bank with a particular focus on banking and investment services and with exposure to general regulatory matters.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, the banking and corporate support teams in the Head Office of J.

P. Morgan Bank Luxembourg S.A. You will be joining a well-established, high calibre and supportive Legal team based throughout EMEA.

Working with other members of the Legal team, the business and support functions, the candidate will provide authoritative and comprehensive advice on current and / or potential legal, regulatory and related risk issues.

The role involves handling high quality work, working closely with business partners in a dynamic sector.

The candidate will be a team player, commercially aware, attuned to the needs of a global business and be able to take the initiative and have a collaborative approach to the provision of legal support.

Key responsibilities

Providing legal advice to the business, support functions and risk partners in connection with the provision of private banking solutions to a multi-

national European client base.

Advising on standard terms and conditions for a wide range of banking products.

Assisting other members of the legal department with advice on a general regulatory and contract matters arising from advisory / brokerage business, discretionary investment management business, custody and payment services.

Assisting with the review of local consumer legislation and assisting with analysis of current best practice, competitor behaviour (where appropriate and relevant) and all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

Assisting on jurisdictional reviews of legal and business issues arising out of contact with various countries within EMEA.

Advising management, support functions and risk partners on Luxembourg law and regulation that will impact the operations or commercial and financial position of the J.P. Morgan business.

Working with business and corporate functions to assess the vulnerability of products and services to existing or future legal or regulatory challenge and, with an awareness of business priorities, helping devise mitigation strategies.

Co-ordinating, instructing and supporting J.P. Morgan’s external legal advisors.

Qualifications, skills and experience

This is a new opportunity to work in a wide and varied role with significant exposure to key stakeholders in the business and other group functions.

The role would suit a lawyer with knowledge and experience of Luxembourg law who possesses the following attributes :

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

First class drafting and negotiating skills.

Strong interpersonal skills which will enable the candidate to work successfully within a team.

An ability to develop strong relationships with the business and fellow Legal and support professionals.

Knowledge of applicable Luxembourg banking laws and regulations (including laws relating to investment business, consumer lending, deposit taking and cross border licensing).

Awareness of the regulatory environment impacting advisory and discretionary investment management services.

Business awareness and the ability to provide practical advice and solutions to meet business needs.

A proven track record of complex problem-solving, exercising a high level of judgement and taking calculated risks.

The ability to prioritise and manage projects effectively.

Ideally, experience gained within a top law firm and / or in the legal department of a top tier financial institution (preferably including a private client or asset management business).

Ideally, familiarity with international financial services regulatory issues.
