The Department of Engineering cooperates with industrial, governmental, and international research partners. As part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, the Operational Excellence team research on value chain optimizations, mainly regarding the application of Value Stream Management (VSM).

The ISO 22468 : 2020 standard submitted by previous research is now applied in the field of Circular Economy (CE) within the international Di-Plast project.

This interesting project aims to improve the uptake of recycled plastic material from the packaging and building sectors.

To support this project, the University of Luxembourg now offers an immediate opening for postdoctoral researcher (PDR), to support the digital development and implementation of a new process chain evaluation tool.

Your Role...

A postdoc position is available in the frame of the project Di-Plast funded by Interreg.

The tasks include :

  • Support the software development and implementation of a holistic process chain evaluation tool based on VSM
  • Managing and contributing to the project deliverables
  • Communicating and coordinating with partners
  • Research related to the following areas : value stream optimization, circular economy, decision support systems
  • Contributing to the standardization activities of VSM as national ISO delegate
  • Providing guidance to PhD and MSc students
  • What we expect from you

  • A PhD degree in Engineering, Software Engineering, or related fields
  • Experience of lean / value stream optimization tools and / or experience in model-driven software engineering and domain-specific languages
  • Strong interest in circular economy and sustainability topics
  • Creative and very motivated, with excellent analytical skills and acquaintance with numerical methods
  • Experience with third-party funded research and its management is an asset
  • Good written and oral skills in English.
  • Knowledge in German, French or Luxembourgish will be considered as advantage
