SnT is a leading international research and innovation centre in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services.
We play an instrumental role in Luxembourg by fueling innovation through research partnerships with industry, boosting R&D investments leading to economic growth, and attracting highly qualified talent.
As part of the collaboration, SnT and IEE are involved in fundamental and applied aspects of distributed sensing. In this context, a new research project funded by the Luxembourg government (FNR) on M odelling a nd S imula t ion of Compl e x R adar S cenes’’ has been awarded recently to pursue channel modelling which is central to sensing system.
This modelling will be exploiting the computational power of the state-of-the-art 2 Petaflop High Performance Computing (HPC) at the University and the EuroHPC supercomputer in Luxembourg, MeluXina.
The advertised position relates to this project and is planned to start in July 2021. For further information, you may check :

The SIGCOM research group is in a unique position towards realizing the objectives of the project having exposure to radar signal processing through ongoing research projects, evolution of communication standards through participation and contribution as well as experience with prototype chip sets from the test-bench development activity.
We’re looking for people driven by excellence, excited about innovation, and looking to make a difference. If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place!
Your Role
High-resolution sensors are becoming integral in applications ranging from automotive safety and autonomous driving to health monitoring of infants and the elderly.
The rapid development of high-performance, low-cost integrated multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) radar systems in the mmWave spectrum that can be connected and collaborate with each other provides multiview perspective that can be led to an image like reconstruction of the surroundings.
In a sensor network, where the information from the sensed data depends on the sensor placement, an optimal sensor placement is non-trivial.
The pre-requisites for such a design are radio propagation channel modelling (target, clutter, multipath, interference, polarization) and associated parameter estimation which necessitates accurate channel modelling and efficient implementation.
This PhD study aims to focus on providing analytical channel modelling and efficient simulation of time-dynamic processes, especially on mathematical modelling and simulation of
