This is an exciting Director Employment Counsel EMEA opportunity based in Luxembourg, that offers diverse in-house responsibilities including handling a variety of complex labor and employment law matters and projects across a wide range of businesses, geographical regions, and functions as a member of a global team.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways :

  • Advising all employment law and employment matters across multiple jurisdictions in EMEA for PayPal (covering Luxembourg, Ireland, the UK, Sweden, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Russia, Israel, Turkey).
  • Responsible for supervising one or more other attorneys based in EMEA.
  • Responsible for all employment law advice relating to works councils and staff delegation matters.
  • Managing multiple internal relationships with internal stakeholders in EMEA and across the globe in a complex, matrixed environment including within the US Executive team, HR, Legal, Compliance, and Business functions.
  • Responsible for multiple external counsel relationships, budgets and legal spend.
  • Managing all EMEA employment-related disputes and litigation.
  • Managing internal dispute resolution.
  • Leading and managing all global restructuring and reorganisation efforts as they relate to EMEA.
  • Supporting compensation team with employment law aspects of Executive hiring, compensation and separations.
  • Leading and managing employment law aspects of mergers and acquisitions, business partnerships, outsourcings and in-sourcings.
  • Drafting all employment-related documentation, including employment contracts, policies and procedures, separation agreements and applicable provisions in transactional documentation.
  • Ensuring adherence to applicable employment laws, collective bargaining agreements and European and Luxembourg banking regulations on sound remuneration principles as they relate to employment matters.
  • Providing all employment law advice in relation to complex global investigations work.
  • Devising and running multiple internal training sessions for HR, Legal, Executives, managers and employees on employment law matters.
  • Providing coverage for or supervising coverage in India, China, Singapore and Australia.

    Skills required :

    Master’s degree in law, acquired in an European jurisdiction and relevant direct experience in the field or in a related area dealing with multi-country labor law.

    Must demonstrate and understand HR philosophy and in particular labor and employee relations

    Knowledge of and proficiency in applicable EMEA labor, social security and employment law

    Ability to support others as a team player and the ability to function in a self-directed fashion

    Very good planning and decision making skills, able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

    Confident negotiator

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Fluent in English, any other language is an asset

    Strong computer and PC skills including MS Office and web based tools.
