Role summary

The Regional Risk and Control Manager (R&CM) is a regional member of the Risk Function, responsible for the local implementation of, and compliance with, the Sanne Risk Management Framework.

The role is a collaborative business partner, supporting the Regional Managing Director and respective Country Heads, in proactively managing risk by identifying, assessing and reporting both risk and controls (adequacy and effectiveness).

The R&CM provides timely, accurate and insightful risk MI and briefings to senior management in the region that enables the business to effectively manage their material risks to within the Group’s risk appetite.

As Risk inherently draws attention to our own potential and actual failures, shortcomings and mistakes, an overarching key deliverable will be the proactive promotion of Sanne behaviours and values and the championing of a positive, transparent risk culture.

The role reports directly to the Director, Business Risk Management.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Proactively provide expert advice, support and challenge to the regional MD, Country and Business in the day to day management of risk and controls in the region ensuring risks are identified, mitigated and managed in a proportionate and transparent manner;
  • Actively brief the MD and relevant Country Heads on risk and control matters occurring across Sanne, taking forward appropriate actions if the region / country is potentially exposed;
  • Provide timely, consistent and simplified risk and controls management expertise for the region, promoting ownership and accountability Work with staff in the regions to implement Risk Framework initiatives, including Policies and Procedures, in a proportionate and pragmatic manner, escalating where not fit for purpose or challenges in delivering to milestone dates;

  • Provide day to day regional incident, breaches, issues and errors support and delivery of the supporting processes, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures, including timely escalation as required;
  • Champion risk based / risk appetite thinking and considerations in business strategy and commercial decisions, promoting a no surprises, no blame culture;
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate level of understanding of regional products, processes and controls to ensure Risk Management activities meet and exceed service level expectations of internal and external clients;
  • Provide Regional input to the development of, regional understanding of and implementation of all relevant policies and procedures, obtaining business input into practical implementation;
  • Provide support, contribution and ongoing monitoring of Core Work Statements and key Procedures, ensuing alignment and identification of risks and controls for assessment, monitoring and reporting;
  • Work with Risk Reporting, contributing to the development and production of the monthly Risk Report for the Risk Committee;
  • Work with Risk Reporting to identify, design, maintain and report a suite of appropriate Key Indicators (whether Risk, Control or Performance, leading and lagging), aligned to Regional and Group risks;
  • Work with Risk Reporting to provide insight and timely trend analysis to identify potential emerging issues, sharing with other Regional R&CM where appropriate;
  • Work with Group Risk Framework and Client Services to provide relevant data and MI to support Risk Assessment process, identify and assess Internet Risk exposures, controls and control gaps, and remaining Residual Risk exposures against Risk Appetite;
  • Work with Group Assurance to ensure execution of regional control testing, including identifying and completing pre testing data / information gathering, ensuring testing is completed on key processes and / or key controls per plan or as required by MD;
  • Work with Group Assurance to complete proactive local risk reviews as required and input into cross jurisdiction reviews, under the direction of the MD and / or Head of First Line and / or Director, Business Risk Management;
  • Work with Risk Projects to assist local remediation against global issues or as required;
  • Monitor and manage actions, to ensure all are on track for completion; challenging, supporting and escalating as required, with clear alignment to risks and controls;
  • Provide triage and secretariat for the Regional REF, ensuring papers, minutes and actions are distributed in a timely manner.
  • Requirements

    Skills / experience required :

  • Comprehensive understanding of Risk Management tools and techniques, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Risk roles.
  • A relevant industry recognised qualification or membership is preferable;
  • Proven record in implementing Risk Management tools and techniques in a pragmatic way to suit that of the business, ensuing a global approach can be implemented locally;
  • Proven record of providing support, guidance, oversight and challenge to both Senior Management and junior staff, with the ability to adjust communication and influencing skills accordingly;
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels;
  • Self-motivated and delivery focused able to balance the needs of Risk Management goals with those of a growing, commercially focused business;
  • Knowledge and experience of applicable laws, regulations and business practice is desirable but not essential;
  • The Europe and Channel Islands roles have one direct report each as support given their size, complexity and history. Therefore, experience of line management for these roles would be beneficial;
