Research Associate (Postdoc) in multi-aerial robots for autonomous inspection of large structures

Your Role

The successful candidates will join the SpaceR group led by Prof. Miguel Olivares-Mendez. They will contribute to an international project on multiple aerial robotics coordination for the autonomous inspection of large.

The multi-robot collaboration / cooperation on this project is expected to be extended to space robotics in the future. They will perform the following tasks :

  • Research on Autonomous navigation for multi aerial robots on large structure inspection focusing on the following topics : Multi-aerial robots mission planningMulti-aerial robots cooperation and / or collaborationRobust situation awarenessSensor fusion for large structures based localizationObstacle detection and avoidanceAccurate multi-robot simulator environmentsReal experiments on restricted areas
  • Develop real-time solutions using ROS
  • Setup and upgrade aerial robotics systems based on the requirements of the project
  • Establish a strong connection with the civil aviation national authority
  • Providing support in setting up and running experiments in the SnT Aerial Robotics Lab and outdoors environments
  • The position holder will be required to perform the following tasks :

  • Researching the predefined areas
  • Participating in research proposal drafting and project deliverables
  • Collaborate in ongoing international and national projects
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications and conference presentations
  • Assisting in the organization of relevant workshops and demos

    Your Profile

    Qualification : The candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or affine.

    With a proven record of accomplishment in the development and testing of autonomous navigation of aerial robots.

  • Strong development skills in C++, python, ROS, VREP and Gazebo
  • Experience with optimization, trajectory planning and state estimation
  • Experience on points cloud processing, sensor fusion, perception and SLAM
  • Be familiar with machine learning approaches for perception and robotics will be an asset
  • Hands-on aerial robot setup and maintenance
  • Commitment, team working and a critical mind
  • Experience with European projects (FP7 / H2020), national projects and industrial projects
  • Language Skills : Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
