The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) is a research centre for the study, analysis and public dissemination of contemporary history of Luxembourg and Europe with a particular focus on digital methods and tools for doing innovative historical research.

It serves as a catalyst for innovative and creative scholarship and new forms of public dissemination and societal engagement with history.


The Digital History Advanced Research Projects Accelerator (DHARPA) at C2DH is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher as part of a research project sponsored by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Professor Sean Takats and join a team that already includes two other postdoctoral researchers, a software developer, and an administrative assistant, and which collaborates with the larger C²DH research center.

In 2020 this team of five will grow to twelve, and with them you will help to develop a new software platform for historical research, in coordination with your own research program.

Like Takats’s other research software projects Zotero () and Tropy (), this new software will be a polished, user-friendly platform intended for wide public adoption.

What we expect from you

We seek a highly motivated postdoc with the following profile :

  • PhD in history or a related field;
  • Passionate about using technology to conduct historical research;
  • Experience in coordinating (digital) history projects;
  • Willingness to cooperate actively in other C²DH projects;
  • Experience with Python, Javascript, R, and / or data visualization will be advantageous;
  • Experience with grant writing will be a plus;
  • Good command of the following languages : English, French and / or German.
