Your Role

As part of the FNR-funded CORE Junior project Resonant Raman scattering dynamics from first principles (RESRAMAN), we seek a highly motivated, talented, and skilled postdoctoral resarcher for the development and application of ab initio computational methods for the description and study of resonant Raman scattering in solid-state systems.

The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr. Sven Reichardt in the Theoretical Solid-State Physics group headed by Prof.

Ludger Wirtz, situated in the Department of Physics and Materials Sceince.

The group’s main focus is the theoretical and computational description and prediction of electronic, vibrational, and optical properties of materials from quantum mechanical first principles.

Your tasks within the projects comprise :

  • Applying computational first-principles techniques to study resonant Raman scattering dynamics on the atomic scale in materials that are interesting for the devlopment of opto-electronic devices
  • Extending the state of the art of Raman scattering theory using techniques from many-body quantum mechanics and quantum field theory
  • Implementing theoretical approaches for resonant Raman spectroscopy in public-domain codes
  • Your Profile

    The successful applicant must hold a PhD in Theoretical or Computational Physics or Chemistry or a closely related field.

    In addition, we specifically look for a candidate who :

  • is highly driven and self-motivated, creative, and capable of critical thinking
  • feels comfortable understanding and applying methods from different subfields of physics
  • has a working knowledge of many-body Green’s functions and a solid theoretical background in ab initio methods (DFT, GW, excitons from BSE, phonons from DFPT)
  • has experience in using ab initio software, in particular the QuantumESPRESSO software suite and the yambo code or ABINIT
  • has experience in using high-performance computing facilities
  • has an excellent command of both written and spoken English
