INTRASOFT International, a leading European IT solutions provider, is seeking a professional to cover the following opening : Windows Engineer (m / f) Role purpose Windows Engineers are part of the second / third level support for the customer end user services infrastructure.
Engineers must demonstrate technical competence, maintain and manage critical infrastructure / systems and ensure the highest level of availability, performance and security.
The team of engineers shall collectively possess the technical skills (e.g. FIM, MIM, SCCM, AD, ADFS, File and print server Management, Exchange Server Management, etc.
to be able to cover the entire scope of technologies and take charge of the services described below in Service Environment and Required Services .
This role will also be called upon to assist application developers and all operational teams. The non-exhaustive list of job responsibilities as well as technical and specific skills / experience is shown below.
Service Environment The customer End User infrastructure is composed of approximately 6000 windows clients. Workstations run Windows 7 and Windows 10.
Hardware is mainly from HP and Microsoft (Surface Pro devices). End user applications are tested in a development environment and validated in a user acceptance environment before going into production.
The customer Windows infrastructure is composed of approximately 600 Windows servers, including the development, test, user acceptance and production environment.
Middleware server infrastructure is mostly virtualized, deployed on VMWARE hosts. Some physical servers are used for specific services.
All hardware is hosted in 2 separate datacentres. It should be noted that Windows server engineers do not cover managing and patching the OS (including server roles), SCOM (System Centre Operations Manager), Unified communications (UC) including VoIP, telephony (Alcatel), videoconferencing (CISCO) and Skype for Business.
Required Services The required services aim at supporting the ongoing operation and maintenance of End User Application Services in all the customer offices to ensure continued service availability.
The activities for all the areas include, but are not limited to : Software distribution management : - Managing client software distribution;
Developing and maintaining documentation for software distribution, in line with policy;- Providing technical assistance for defining application software package specifications and deployment plans;
Building, maintaining and updating the customer software deployment packages;- Establishing the process for verifying the accuracy of packages, compliance with the pack-
age management process and the identification of process deficiencies;- Providing reporting regarding the software distribution activities, as per customer policy;
Liaising with end user application testing to validate that applications perform in accordance with approved specifications, can be deployed and successfully integrated;
Testing new releases of supported hardware and software to ensure that functionality and performance meets pre-determined requirements;
Providing second level support for incident management and problem management;- Providing support for the customer development teams when requested.
End-user Engineering : - Managing and executing patch management activities, from proactive vulnerability monitoring through deployment using software distribution management and change management, in accordance with policy;
Providing reporting on the patch management process and activities;- Managing Client Images;- Developing and maintaining documentation of image management activities;
Establishing appropriate image change management and integrating with Software licensing management;- Establishing and managing image baselines;
Establishing and maintaining a process for verifying the accuracy of images, compliance with the image management process and identification of process deficiencies;
Managing the testing environment;- Conducting integration and security testing for all new and upgraded equipment, software or services based on the requirements and design;
Evaluating all new and upgraded end user services components or services for compliance with customer’s policies, regulations and procedures;
Defining user acceptance test requirements;- Performing configuration management and change management activities related to integration and testing;
Monitoring the staff firewall, anti-virus and disk encryption status as well as events on the End User workstations;- Performing configuration management and change management activities related to integration and testing.
End user computing service management : - Managing end user applications throughout their lifecycle (including requirements, design, build, deploy, operate and optimize);
Managing all activities related to the end user windows application base;- Improving the technologies used to deliver and support end user IT services;
Providing ongoing support for applications, speedily diagnosing and resolving incidents;- Providing problem and change management support;
Supporting service asset and configuration management. Test and Review Software : - Conducting end user software testing to validate performance is in line with predefined requirements;
Managing requests for new end user software. Support user requests for out of policy software, including software testing;
Analysing the installed software base and investigating the feasibility of using alternatives. Microsoft Server Applications Engineering Services cover the following areas (areas are potentially subject to change over time) : AD (Active Directory), ADFS (Active Directory Federation Services);
System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM); FIM (Forefront Identity Manager) and MIM (Microsoft Identity Management); File and print services;
Exchange; Patching of Exchange, FIM and MIM, SCCM. The activities for these areas include, but are not limited to : Exchange Server Management : -
Developing and documenting requirements and policies for mail service monitoring;- Conducting event monitoring, taking (preventive) action when required;
Proactively researching security issues and vulnerabilities, proposing actions to take such as patching and other fixes (e.
g. changes in configuration) and implementing these actions;- Carrying out mailbox archiving, backups and restores in accordance with policy;
Monitoring the backup process, taking (preventive) action when required;- Performing email archiving as required by policy.
File and print server Management : - Developing and maintaining file system management documentation and carry out data management operations in line with customer standards and policies;
Providing reporting on system performance and statistics as outlined in policies and procedures;- Monitoring and controlling storage performance, according to technical specifications, storage and data management policies, and optimize performance;
Managing data relocation. FIM, MIM, SCCM, AD and ADFS : - Operating and managing these respective servers;- Providing reporting and statistics on a regular basis;
Proactively monitoring performance and identifying indicators of potential incidents, includ-ing sub-optimal performance;
Troubleshooting and resolving incidents related to the systems in scope;- Implementing required changes;- Proactively researching security issues and vulnerabilities, proposing actions to take such as patching and other fixes and implementing these actions.
Job responsibilities Focus on continuous improvement, automation and keeping systems running with optimal effectiveness and efficiency;
Manage the resolution of IT incidents and fulfilment of service requests as applicable; Provide assistance for other processes such as release management, change management support etc.
Play a key role in troubleshooting incidents (including indicators or precursors) in a timely manner, and coordinate changes between internal infrastructure teams and development teams;
Document processes and procedures and keep relevant infrastructure documentation up-to-date; Provide assistance in guiding users in formulating requirements, provide advice on alternative courses of action and conduct feasibility studies;
Provide technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology; Conduct evaluations, testing and integration of new operating systems, drivers and patches;
Technical and specific skills / Experience Experience in installing configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting Windows based environments;
Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.); Problem solving skills; Flexible and stress resilient; Attention to detail;
Ability to work in a co-operative way; Knowledge of ITIL processes, ticketing systems and CMDB; Experience with multiple scripting languages (as a minimum good level of Microsoft Windows PowerShell is required);
Ability to operate effectively in a high-pressure situation; Experience with the technologies in the scope; Experience developing and maintaining documentation;
Spoken and written interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; Good command of the English language (at least B2 level);
