Your responsibilities

  • Developing and evaluating of computer vision and AI methods for : Car interior scene understanding, as semantic segmentation and recognition of objects Shape and 3D-
  • pose estimation of occupants

  • Implementing methods on vehicle demonstrator platforms
  • Assessing the benefits of 3D versus 2D camera technologies for target applications
  • Building up an in-vehicle data set with ground truth annotation
  • Your profile

  • A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Profound knowledge in the following areas Image processing, computer vision Statistical learning and pattern recognition Excellent programming skills in C++ Experience with Deep Learning Libraries
  • Ability to work autonomously in an international environment
  • Creativity, team spirit and a pro-active attitude
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, any other language is considered an asset
  • Shared mobility and autonomous vehicles will dominate the future mobility. These new models of driving require vehicles equipped with sensors that will permanently monitor the interior of vehicles.

    The automated recognition of objects and free space, as well as the detection of occupants and the estimation of their size and pose will be crucial to obtain a full understanding of the car interior scene.

    Special interest lies therefore in an understanding of the occupants’ activities, interactions, and intentions.

    The area of application reaches from vehicle safety and surveillance functions over comfort functions (as e.g. augmented reality HMIs) to driver awareness and intention recognition for advanced driver assistant systems and driver availability monitoring for handing over the autonomous vehicle control.

    We are looking for a candidate interested in conducting his / her PhD research in the fields of computer vision, machine learning, object recognition, and 3D shape reconstruction.

    The research focuses on combining methods from point cloud processing, computer graphics, and deep learning to obtain a complete analysis of the car interior scene.

  • In collaboration with the DFKI Kaiserslautern (Prof. Stricker).
  • As a founding member of the Luxembourg Automotive Campus, IEE will be moving its Contern operations to Bissen in 2019.
