The European Long Term Network Planning team forecasts, plans, and optimizes the flow of billions of units each year. We are looking for a motivated Data Scientist (DS) with strong analytical skills and experience to lead the long term strategy for Inbound and transfers

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for forecasting volumes and defining optimal strategy for the EU network.

They will develop mathematical models for forecasting and optimization, using typically linear / integer programming, machine / deep learning, simulation, forecasting and statistical techniques.

In addition to assessment of historical trends, they will require envisaging the impact of various business initiatives and strategy.

As the owner of long term plan, they will drive long term decisions including site location, design, capacity expansion (buildouts), financial viability and impact on network dynamics.

Position provides opportunities to influence one of the high visibility / high impact areas in the organization. The candidate will play an integral part in improving network efficiency by successfully partnering with various operations, consumer, engineering, real estate and finance teams to plan and implement decisions.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, an ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy and ever-changing environment.

This role will influence the direction of the business by leveraging our data to deliver insights that drive decisions and actions.

The role will involve translating broad business problems into specific analytics projects, conducting deep quantitative analyses, and communicating results effectively.


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or other quantitative field
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in a role requiring application of data modeling and analytic skills
  • Knowledge of a programming language such as R, Python
  • Hands-on experience with commercial applications of predictive modeling, machine learning techniques and tools
  • Self-driven, with demonstrated ability to deliver on ambiguous projects as well as projects / requests where the underlying data is incomplete
  • Strong verbal / written communication and presentation skills
  • Advanced ability to draw insights from data and clearly communicate them to the stakeholders and senior management as required

  • MS / PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Applied Economics or in another highly quantitative field
  • Experience working in very large data warehouse environments
  • Interest / Previous experience with transportation or supply chain management (forecasting, strategy, planning, optimization)
