Description des tâches :

The position is part of an applied project in remote sensing and modelling of crop water requirement and stress to support irrigation management.

The candidate will work in a team which aims to assess the feasibility of using the three evapotranspiration / water stress algorithms (Penman-

Monteith equation type algorithm, trapezoidal type algorithm, Crop Water Stress Index) for irrigation scheduling based on experimental data collected in Germany and Portugal.

This will include processing of visible to near-infrared (VNIR) and thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing data collected from unmanned aerial vehicles, manned aircrafts and satellites.

On the modelling site, the successful candidate will support the team in the implementation of algorithms for assessing crop water requirement and crop water stress (Penman-

Monteith equation type algorithm, trapezoidal type algorithm, Crop Water Stress Index, etc.).

The successful applicant’s main missions will be to :

  • Define and document the above-mentioned algorithms for the estimation of ET and water stress
  • Access and pre-process VNIR and TIR satellite data (Sentinel, Landsat, etc.)
  • Implement water stress indices in R, IDL, or Matlab
  • Run Matlab- or R-based codes of ET models
  • Run the ET and water stress algorithms and give support in performing a model comparison for different crops, growing stages and irrigation schemes
  • Prepare maps of NDVI, radiometric temperature, CWSI and ET
  • Collaborate in the comparison of ground temperature and CWSI values with drone temperature and CWSI values
  • Collaborate in the preparation of monthly reports and project reports
  • She / he will also be asked to :

  • Maintain state of the art in his / her technological field,
  • Document own work in order to ensure the reproducibility and guarantee the traceability of the results,
  • Train on new techniques, machines, equipment
  • Études :

    Niveau d'étude demandé egal Master (Bac+5)

    Métier / domaine de formation :

    MSc in environmental remote sensing, geosciences, environmental sciences, physical geography, applied physics or other relevant scientific discipline

    Autres compétences :

  • Advanced skills in optical reflective and thermal infrared remote sensing
  • Solid skills in image processing including geometric and radiometric correction and advanced processing (retrieval of land surface temperature)
  • Basic understanding of methods for assessing crop water requirement and crop water stress
  • Experience in implementing scientific algorithms
  • Advanced skills in image processing software (IDL / ENVI), GIS, and programming (R, Matlab)
  • Ability to write technical reports in English and to produce graphical figures and maps
