The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT.

Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the Materials Research and Technology (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry.

MRT’s activities hinge on four thematic pillars : nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.

The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing.

These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.

Responsibilities

How will you contribute?

The researcher will be integrated into the Scientific Instrumentation and Process Technology (SIPT) RDI unit of the MRT Department) and will be hosted in the Plasma Process Engineering (PPE) group.

This research group develops fundamental and technological expertise in the area of process engineering for advanced surfaces coatings.

The group focuses on its recognized expertise in Research and Development of both thermal and plasma surface modification for the synthesis of functional polymer thin films, functional inorganic coatings, or functional / smart surfaces.

In the framework of different projects, the candidate will be in charge of research activities in the field of process development and coating synthesis by Physical Vapor Deposition.

She / he will have to develop a porfolio of competitive and collaborative projects at the national and international level.

The activities will be conducted at the laboratory level but also at the industrial transfer level thanks to a large pilot line installation.

The selected candidate will conduct research, development and innovation by defining, acquiring and managing as a PI one or several RDI projects.

She / he will hierarchically report to the group leader.

As part of the RDI activities, she / he understands and formalizes needs of private / public partners regarding scientific knowledge or technological developments drafting of service offers, RDI law projects, etc.

This means having experience as PI or work package leader is a must, including taking initiatives and making proposals of future RDI projects and funding’s initiatives

The selected candidate is able to manage daily work, including projects, formulate innovative concepts. Mentoring is part of her / his activities, as well as training staff members and coaching PhD students.

Part of the researcher activities is allocated to dissemination such as patents, publications, writing technical reports.

You hold a PhD in Materials Sciences, Physics or a related field of Engineering Sciences, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as researcher.

You have a renowned scientific and technology expertise in the field of dry coating deposition and more particularly by Physical Vapor Deposition, combined to a first successful experience of RDI project management as Principal Investigator.

On top of this, you’re highly motivated, with strong communication team worker skills.
