The Workplace Health and Safety Team is looking for a Senior Manager to guide our Safety Engineering team initiatives and business partnerships, across Europe.
The ideal candidate will validate vendor proposed technical safety solutions and work in partnership with internal engineering and reliability maintenance teams to ensure right first time, legally compliant safety standards for equipment.
The person will play a critical role to ensure high standards of safety are built into new systems and processes across new and legacy EU Fulfillment Center, Sort Center and Delivery Center.
This role will supervise a team of safety engineers who provide support across all businesses, and will functionally partner with all engineering teams to coordinate end-to-end lifecycle management of safety in design.
Detailed technical knowledge of EU machinery safety regulations to meet all EU country requirements. Knowledge of robotics and automated conveyor systems will also be essential to support the procurement and implementation of systems across the EU network.
Emphasis will be on technical knowledge and the ability to engage with cross functional teams, transforming this knowledge into sound, compliant processes for the EU network.
This role has the potential to expand in scope in the future to other regions such as APAC. This role is based in EU with preference in Luxembourg and will require travel approximately 30% of the time.
Handling a wide range of projects being heavily involved in the EU Capital Approval Review process, including liaison with other critical support functions such as Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, and New Build / Real Estate teams in order to effectively deliver the required right first time machinery and systems safety standards.
The extent of your tasks will include :
Provide expert input to change projects, build outs and development projects and act as a technical machinery expert for the EU Health and Safety team.
Generate regular technical updates for stakeholders.
Provide monthly reports on upcoming projects and current in process schemes with clear analytical measures of status and risk.
Support business change through effective influencing of change management processes within EU operations.
Support new launches by performing suitable risk assessments when appropriate.
Advise manager and senior leaders on emerging trends internally (e.g., lead and lag indicators) and externally (e.g., legislation, industry) and potential impact on roadmaps and strategy.
Maintain organizational safety engineering risk assessment methodology including risk tolerances and make recommendations to senior management.
Identify gaps / opportunities in or between regions, processes, and organizations (e.g., workflows, risk assessments, controls, etc.
to enable high standards and consistency in application.
Support complex risk programs where the organization or business problem and risks strategy are not defined, or where endemic problems surface.
Support the development of solutions that meet Amazon high standards for safety, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, efficiency, scalable, simplicity, and operational excellence.
Support technical review of Global Safety Engineering Standards and Specifications, along with subordinate documents (e.
g. procedures) and processes (e.g. risk methodologies).
Partnering with legal and operations team, communicating and defending program, and region or business unit-level risk to leaders, regulators and industry associations (where applicable).
Partnering, maintain and leverage industry partnerships to support safety engineering programs.
Develop the team of safety engineers.
Review process, including liaison with other critical support functions such as Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, and New Build / Real Estate teams in order to effectively deliver the required right first time machinery and systems safety standards.
Directly coordinate your team managing a wide range of projects.
Participate in the EU Capital Approval Review process.
Provide functional working links with other critical functional teams including; Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, New Build Safety and Real Estate teams.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or safety engineering
Long-term experience in safety engineering programs in manufacturing or production environment.
Expertise in supervising and developing others, along with demonstrated ability to influence other groups and stakeholders.
Experience within a global company, with global or multi-country responsibilities.
Robotics and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) knowledge.
Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments.
Proven record of propelling machinery safety standards across and large multi-site business.
Experience interacting with cross functional teams.
Flexible approach to work, able to organize own priorities, workload and European travel.
Ability to represent, verbally and in writing, technical information, risk levels, complex decisions, and potential solutions in clear simple language to business and other stakeholders to enable decision making.
Knowledge and understanding of certification bodies for approvals that comply with local, national and international regulations.
Deep knowledge of the core business systems broad understanding of company systems / technologies (relevant to safety engineering)
Deep knowledge of International and EU / NA Standards such as ISO, ANSI, ISO, NFPA, OHSA, CFR, NFPA, ANSI.
In-depth understanding in the EU Machine Directive 2006 / 42 / EC and the its relevant harmonized standards.
Knowledge of robotics and automated conveyor systems
Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adapting the approach to meet the needs of customers, business and program stakeholders, and engineering teams involved.
Innovative hands-on leader with experience supervising high impact teams in production or distribution environments.

Master’s degree in related safety engineering field.
Experience participating on relevant standard development committees (i.e. ISO, IEC, Machinery Directive) and other industry groups.
Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or Country specific equivalent.
