Amazon is seeking an experienced and technology oriented Principal Engineering - Technical Program Manager, Advanced Technology, to coordinate the development and implementation of best-in-class technologies within the EU Team of Advanced Technology.

Successful candidates are highly motivated individuals with strong experience in program and project management of developmental technologies in the mechatronics area.

The role manages complex technology programs, involving multiple types of technologies and stake-holders. Examples of technologies include industrial hardware / control machines such as robotic cells, autonomous vehicles, sortation and packing technologies.

Stake-holders are x-functional representatives, leadership, internal customers, Operations, maintenance teams and external vendors / contractors.

The Principal Technical Program Manager works independently as individual contributor, seeking guidance as needed, may be embedded in a single technology team, partnering with the manager and other engineering teams to deliver complex / cross-functional projects, or may work with more teams if program goals require it.

The role may work directly with external technology providers, customers, partners, or sellers, has a solid understanding of the design approaches and industry technologies utilized in the program area, makes connections (to people and / or technologies) and ensures the right people are part of the conversation.

The Principal Technical Program Manager is able to recognize when a proposed design is too complex or risky (and arrange additional reviews by senior engineers).

The Principal Technical Program Manager maintains written and oral communication with leadership, sends regular updates, manages and resolves escalations.

The role maintains the overall ownership of the program, and keeps different executing functions accountable to deliver their scope of work.

The role will understand the details of an Amazon Fulfillment Center design, implementation, equipment and technology. This leader will work in strict collaboration with WW Engineering, EU Engineering, Deployment Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Equipment Vendors, Software Developers and Procurement.

The Principal Technical Program Manager will drive an invent and simplify strategy, will have high work capacity while being detailed oriented and agile to manage business changes and keep driving the innovations and initiatives.

This individual needs to be comfortable interfacing and driving various functional teams and individuals at all levels of the organization in order to be successful.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Work with internal Amazon teams and external vendors to deliver innovations, technology development and CAPEX projects to win business :

  • Lead overall end-to-end equipment technology implementation and on-site integration.
  • Communicate project status, drive and elevate decision making and help requests.
  • Lead critical path schedule items and escalate to leadership on potential risks and delays.
  • Conduct multiple weekly standing meetings with internal teams and vendors to plan and track deliverables.
  • Lead technical design reviews and propose design solutions for robotics, autonomous vehicles, auto-packing, material handling and storage solutions that meet both business needs and leverage global design standardization.
  • Lead and influence x-functional teams of technology oriented Engineers and Engineering Contractors.
  • Deep dive on technical details and lead problem resolution on a need basis.
  • Work in close collaboration with World Wide Engineering and Global Robotics, working across multiple time zones.
  • Coordinate information between various teams in the organization and work very closely with the Ops Engineering, Real Estate, IT and Operations.
  • Lead Value Engineering work to minimize CAPEX spending.
  • Ability to understand Operational processes
  • Hands-on experience to be close to the activities in the field
  • Experience in using Project Management and Cost-Control tools
  • Flexibility to travel up to 50% across Europe.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Degree, B.S. or Master, in Engineering (or science / technology).
  • PMP certification
  • Proven technical leadership experience in development, testing and implementation of large scale, complex technology projects.
  • Experience in using Modeling, CAD and Software programming tools.
  • Working knowledge using MS Excel, AutoCAD, MS Project, and software for technical document writing such as Visio, Word, Excel and / or PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English required. A plus is speaking other EU languages
