The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics , Physics , Engineering , Computer Science , Life Sciences and Medicine .

Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens, in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.

The Mathematics Department of the University of Luxembourg has an opening for :

3 PhD positions , co-financed by a grant from the Luxembourg National Research Fund.

PhD advisors currently recruiting and their research areas :

  • Giovanni Peccati : Stochastic analysis, random fields and stochastic geometry
  • Antonella Perucca : Number theory (algebraic, analytic, computational), arithmetic geometry
  • Jean-Marc Schlenker : Geometric structures on 3-dimensional manifolds and geometric analysis
  • Sarah Scherotzke : Algebraic geometry, representation theory, higher categories
  • Gabor Wiese : Number theory, arithmetic geometry, computer algebra
  • The other PIs in the project are Ivan Nourdin, Hugo Parlier, Norbert Poncin, Bruno Teheux and Sergei Merkulov.
  • Your Role

    The successful candidates will be expected to conduct research under the guidance of professors (names and areas of expertise listed below), with the aim of obtaining a PhD in mathematics.

    They will also be expected to contribute to the department’s many activities, including seminars, teaching, outreach and various other research related events.

    Our department offers an outstanding and dynamic environment for PhD candidates, with multiple seminars, working groups, colloquia, and a doctoral school which also includes access to multiple training opportunities, including some not only focused on mathematics.

    In addition, our modern campus provides excellent facilities, creating an invigorating research environment.

    Your Profile

  • Master's Degree (or equivalent) in mathematics or related disciplines. (The degree must be obtained before the beginning of the contract but you can apply before).
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Strong dedication to doing mathematics at a research level.
