Within the University, the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is a highly interdisciplinary research centre (IC), integrating experimental biology and computational biology approaches in order to develop the foundation of a future predictive, preventive and personalized medicine.

The LCSB is currently involved in several projects in the areas of microbiome research and One Health and is looking for a candidate to support further developments towards a large, integrated research endeavour in this field :

In a changing and interconnected world, the functions of microbiomes have to be better understood in view of sustaining the health of the human population.

Three important healthcare challenges of our time are linked to microbiomes in different ecosystems, notably the emergence of new pathogens, the spread of antimicrobial resistance genes and the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases.

The planned large-scale initiative that is currently in the early stages of development builds upon a number of already running initiatives, notably the Expobiome ERC Consolidator project exploring the role of microbial communities in chronic diseases as well as our Doctoral Training Unit rel "noopener noreferrer" target " blank">

Microbiomes in One Health (MICROH) funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

Our One Health initiative, with the vision to comprehensively characterise the PathOme in Luxembourg and to mechanistically understand the impact of the PathOme ( Infectome ) on infectious and chronic disease processes, aims to bridge between research and clinical applications.

Systems ecology approaches will be used to better understand the roles and effects of pathogenic insults an individual encounters during a lifetime.

We will shed light on how organisms respond to changing environments, what triggers the emergence of pandemics from zoonotic diseases and how human health challenges are linked to environmental factors.

One Health is an inherently collaborative effort involving national stakeholders, as well as international partners.
