ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Engineer, Ground Systems is a key member of the SES Networks Next Generation System engineering team providing technical expertise in the areas of gateway and baseband systems development.
The engineer’s key activities will include the definition of technical requirements, the preparation of technical studies, participation of R&D activities, design for next generation gateway systems, and the analysis of technical and commercial use cases to support product led requirements for SES Next Generation Satellites.
The SES Networks gateway team works in a dynamic environment and is looking for forward thinking individuals to help develop the next generation of gateway systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS
Perform system engineering, analysis, design, specification and implementation of SES’s Next Generation gateway and baseband systems that SES needs to fulfil their mission on global basis
Responsible for the technical analysis on select Use Cases to support the development of the next generation gateway architecture
Provide support to a multi-discipline product focused team to ensure timely and accurate project delivery
Provide technical input into the SES Networks gateway strategy
Perform transmission analysis, in particular link / level budget calculations, MATLAB analysis, development of Excel VBA / Software based tools, block / design drawing and other detailed / complex studies in support of gateway product development
Develop forward-looking architectures and designs that support implementation of evolving SES Networks products and capabilities
Support development of technical design documents, speciation’s, RFIs for the Next Generation gateway and baseband systems
Participate in design reviews, test activities and review of technical documentation for gateway and baseband systems
Evaluate relevant technological developments, market trends, competitive factors and customer requirements
Responsible to developing test procedures and scripts to ensure new architectures are properly vetted in the lab or in over-the-air testing
Effectively communicate status of ongoing projects to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Provide support to subcontractors and vendors developing MEO and GEO compatible antennas, RF components, and baseband equipment
Provide system engineering support in the deployment of the Ground Infrastructure at SES Networks facilities located worldwide
Support the transition of the new products into operations ensuring the proper tools and training are in place
Develop and document requirements, specifications, interfaces, test plans, and supporting the Operations, Maintenance and Sustainment programs
Responsible for procedure development to support SES Networks Operations
Other ad-hoc tasks, as assigned by Line Manager
Must possess strong technical skills across many different areas (modems, antennas, RF components, Test and measuring instruments, power etc.)
Excellent written and oral communication skills, in English
Effective communication and presentations skills in working with both technical and non-technical support staff
Self-motivated, accountable and self-educating individual with strong personal and professional initiative who is willing and able to work collaboratively with both customers and fellow team members

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
BS in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering or Telecommunications, or similar
5 years of experience in developing satellite communication systems, satellite terminal systems or satellite-based networking & data systems;
Ka-Band systems experience a plus
Master degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering or equivalent with a specialization which includes telecommunication or Satellite Communications Systems can replace 3 years of experience
Experience in the development or application of VSAT baseband equipment
Experience in the development or application of gateway antenna systems and associated equipment
Minimum 2 years of operational experience in remote baseband, IF, RF, antennas, and WAN / LAN equipment
In-Depth knowledge of Telecommunications Satellite Systems including VSAT systems
Expert working knowledge of Satellite Communications Baseband, Network Management, and Modem systems equipment
Hands-on experience in RF measurement techniques, test and verification of ground stations and auxiliary systems
Complete understanding of GEO, MEO, and LEO telecommunications satellite technologies and systems
Knowledge of internet based network connectivity principles and implementation
Thorough understanding of and ability to use System Engineering processes
Excellent / Good command and proven experience of MS Office package (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio), Excel VBA programing, AutoCAD
Software development skills in Keysight VEE, C / C++, Java, Python, Matlab being a valuable asset
Understanding of Virtualization platforms including VMware, Cloud Computing, Software Build System,
Working knowledge of Linux / Unix operating systems
