The doctoral candidate will be working within the Department of Economics and Management (CREA) of the University of Luxembourg
The candidate’s main task will be to prepare a doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof. Nicolas Jonard and Dr Laurent Bergé.
Work will take place at the University of Luxembourg
The general research theme is the economics and management of Innovation. The thesis will aim at understanding the reciprocal interdependencies of employee mobility, social networks dynamics and knowledge creation and diffusion.
The project will combine concepts, theories and tools from micro-economic theory, the economics of innovation, sociology, strategic management and organization theory, trying to maintain explicitly a multi-
disciplinary perspective. The approach will be quantitative, relying on mathematical modelling and computational experiments, possibly complemented in a later stage by empirical analysis.
It is expected that the research yields significant managerial and strategic insights at the firm level, while also being of relevance for Policy and the design of systems of innovation
The tasks involved in PhD research are varied and the PhD candidate must be willing to conduct each of them. They include : conducting literature surveys and writing state-
of-the-art summaries; writing reports and articles; conducting joint and independent research activities; attending and participating to regular meetings;
making oral presentations; disseminating results at international conferences and workshops; publishing peer-reviewed articles
The PhD candidate will also contribute to teaching, from one to three hours per week
Master’s degree in Management or Economics, with a taste and curiosity for concepts and methods from other disciplines
Experience in programming (C++, R, Python ).
Good understanding of data management, modelling and analysis
Strong interest in mathematical modelling and computational analysis
Strong communication skills and a willingness to interact
Fluency in English, both spoken and written
