As part of ArcelorMittal Global R&D, the research center of Esch / Alzette specializes in long products, mirroring the position of the AM production sites located in Luxembourg.
The product development department is tasked with the development and the optimization of new products and the associated production process.
We are looking for a material science engineer or metallurgist for our structural long carbon Steel Research Centre. You will work in close collaboration with the plants and commercial departments on research projects and technical assistance for sheet piles, sections and rails.
The research field covers ferrous physical metallurgy with applications in the production process (mostly solid state) and the application of the product.
A good understanding or first experience in one or more of the following fields is considered as a strong asset : development of new grades, (in line) heat treatment, hot rolling, process control, corrosion of low carbon steels, assessment of roll life, organic or metallic coatings.
In the position you will be responsible for the management of R&D project, including budgets and deadlines. Occasional business trips, mainly in Europe, will be required.
Job requirements :
We are looking for new team member to strengthen the materials development team. Previous experience in physical metallurgy in relation with a mass production process (such as hot rolling) is highly desirable.
Issues covered should include thermal treatment, specifically in line cooling processes and simultaneous control of temperature and deformation.
Experience in wear and degradation of metallic surfaces (rolls) and in downstream processes relating to corrosion protection (including metallic and organic coating) are also appreciated.
