The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) invites applications from PhD candidates in the general area of signal processing for wireless communications.
SnT is carrying out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services, often in collaboration with industrial, governmental or international partners.

The advent of 5G has enabled a new era of ubiquitous connected devices and new applications requiring larger capacity and high-density connectivity, but also more demanding Positioning, Navigation and Timing requirements.
It is well-known that accurate radio-based positioning is the enabler of many location-based services related for instance to safety, intelligent transportation, entertainment, industry automation, robotics and remote operation services.
Nowadays, the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), which is a term that comprises GPS and Galileo among other systems, constitutes still today the only wide-spread reliable solution thanks to its high precision and coverage.
However, there are still a number of use cases where GNSS alone cannot fulfill all the expectations of the users. It is on those cases where the synergies of GNSS and cellular-based PNT techniques have the greatest potential, even more when considering the advancements to the brought about by the new features of 5G technologies to support PNT services such as wider bandwidth signals, new frequency bands in the mmWave range and massive antenna arrays.
In this context, we aim to contribute to the development and standardization of hybrid 5G and GNSS applications The successful candidates will join a strong and motivated research team lead by Prof.
