OCSiAl is the world’s largest manufacturer of graphene nanotubes. The company plans to launch the first train of the world’s largest graphene nanotube synthesis plant in Luxembourg, its international headquarters, in 2022.

In the meantime, OCSIAL is installing a technical support and application development laboratory in Foetz. The domains of focus for this development centre are thermosets, rubbers and thermoplastics.

OCSIAL has an undetermined term contract opportunity for a Technologist / Laboratory Technician in Foetz, Luxemburg. Objectives are the participation to the development of new products and applications based on nanomaterials, of new formulations and the improvement of existing products, in the field of concentrates / composites destined to industrial applications.

Job responsibilities : Responsibilities include, but are not limited to : Materials preparation : Prepare specimens according to technical program / customer requests, actively take part to the compounding of plastics, rubbers, thermosets on specific lab processing equipment.

Organize the purchase / collection and handling of required raw materials. Materials evaluation : Perform lab experiments on existing products or prepared under new developments to check if they meet the defined targets.

In charge of the characterization of materials by different techniques (mechanical tests, electrical properties, microscopy ) according to industrial standards or internal procedures.

Results interpretation : responsible for raw data quality, analyses test results with rigor. In charge of analyse of the data and results concerning own tests and of drawing the conclusions about the observations.

Provide basic interpretations to identify potential problems and indicate solutions. Communicate results in the writing of intermediate laboratory experiences and final reports, generate adapted tables and graphics.

  • Managing Protocol and Methods : applies established protocols and methods; develop new versions in collaboration with supervisor;
  • prepare written methods for experiment instructions related to specific devices / operations. Participation to laboratory functioning : Take actively part to the proper functioning of the laboratory, keep the laboratory clean and organized.

    Responsible for dedicated lab equipment, handle contacts with suppliers, supervise maintenance and repairs, ensure calibration as applicable.

  • Job requirements : Technician degree in Chemistry or Materials sciences (BAC+2, BTS) or equivalent; Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience in industrial environment in the field of polymeric materials;
  • Practical experience in processing / compounding polymeric materials on twin -screws, internal mixers, roll mills... and test specimen preparation (injection moulding, compression moulding ).

  • Experience in test protocols for characterization of polymeric materials (mechanical properties, electrical conductivity ) is highly desired, the knowledge of standard analytical instrumentation and methods for plastics / rubbers is a clear advantage;
  • Thorough understanding of polymeric materials characteristics and processing technologies, knowledge of standard rubbers and / or thermoplastic testing procedures.

    Analytical mind with problem solving attitude, rigorous in work. Committed to meeting the deadlines. Demonstrate sound judgment while planning and executing a job, adhering to EHS requirements.

    Excellent computer skills, proficient in MS Word, Excel, ability to present data; Mother tongue French or German, fluent in English : ability to speak and prepare protocols / reports in English is mandatory.
