As a Senior Sustainable Building Innovation Manager you will be responsible for developing strategy and executing innovative programs that reduce carbon emissions and improve the sustainability of our facilities and emerging business operations.

This candidate will work with internal and external stakeholders to help design zero carbon facility solutions at scale.

They will focus on creating an innovation ecosystem to accelerate the adoption of sustainable building technologies and solutions and for creating advanced partnerships within the sustainable buildings industry and with start-up and research centers around the world.

The candidate will be a subject matter expert in sustainable building design, and reducing carbon. This role will focus on new and existing fulfillment and warehouse operations to help Amazon .

The candidate should have experience testing and accelerating the deployment of sustainability broadly into buildings through dematerialization and lower embedded carbon material strategies, electrification and energy efficiency, chemical reduction in facility materials, water management, and other sustainable design strategies.

The ideal candidate will possess both good communication, negotiation and influencing skills to promote consensus across multiple internal and external stakeholders, as well as a pragmatic results-oriented approach.

The candidate will have troubleshooting and problem solving skills, along with the ability to thrive in a technical environment.

The candidate will be motivated, agile, and project management skills and will have an interest in enabling us to identify and promote sustainable buildings opportunities at Amazon.

Finally, the candidate will show good judgment and continually improve their level of knowledge about Amazon’s business, its platform, and relevant technologies.

Responsibilities :

  • Support the execution of a comprehensive carbon reduction strategy for Amazon’s buildings
  • Identify and Evaluate new technology and industry barriers to decarbonize the built environment
  • Define sustainable buildings innovation programs and metrics and ensure goals are achieved
  • Secure buy-in from Amazon leadership for piloting & large-scale deployment across Amazon’s building network
  • Communicate and present to key leaders
  • Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for various building-related sustainability solutions
  • Analyze and communicate the financial impact of projects and initiatives
  • Manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously
  • Build relationships with external suppliers and partners, and with internal stakeholders

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Sustainability, Engineering, Environmental science, Business, or related field
  • Experience working in sustainable building industry, with progressive responsibility in assessing and deploying innovative sustainable building technologies in buildings, operations, supply chain, transportation or related fields
  • General knowledge and understanding of commercial HVAC systems, controls, and various energy management systems.
  • Experience managing project timelines, contractor scopes, and project budgets
  • Experience using understanding of carbon reduction and sustainable building implementation strategies for energy, water, and waste
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and optimizing large-scale initiatives and experience with complex buildings and logistics networks
  • Proven ability to thrive in a high energy environment where tactical and strategic activities are expected to be driven in parallel
  • LEED Accredited Professional, PE, CEM or other building professional accreditation
  • Experience with building systems and commercial / industrial construction practices
  • Experience with conducting on-site Measurement & Verification studies, and proficiency with using associated instrumentation.
  • An understanding of BREEAM and other environmental assessment methodologies (Accreditation with BREEAM / LEED / WELL would be an advantage)

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred
  • Accreditations, such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), preferred
  • A proven track record in the energy engineering field along with experience in project management, survey design and end-use metering instrumentation, with substantial knowledge of lighting, motors, and HVAC systems preferred
  • Understanding of HVAC Operations & Maintenance, Facilities Management, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), and leveraging Energy Efficiency incentive programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience in driving new technology adoption across large building networks
  • International work experience and previous exposure to roles with a global remit
  • Ability to read and interpret building engineering drawings
  • Experience with current building regulations
  • Deep green building experience with demonstrated industry-leading sustainability design and construction
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English
