Doctoral Candidate (PhD student) in Computer Science

36 months fixed-term contract, renewable up to 4 years pending satisfaction of progress milestones (CDD)
On full-time basis (40 hours / week)
Student and employee status (36 months study programme)
Foreseen starting date : October 1st 2020, or upon agreement
Topic in the area of modeling and analysis of complex networks (to be agreed with the supervisor)
The studentship would be conducted within the Security and Trust of Software Systems group (SaToSS) led by Prof. Sjouke Mauw.
The successful doctoral candidate will be officially supervised by Dr. Jun Pang, and she / he is expected to (1) develop computational tools and methods and / or (2) apply deep learning techniques for modeling and analysing real-life networks social networks, biological networks, networks of scientific papers and authors).

The candidate’s tasks include the following :
Conduct excellent research in the field of modeling and analysis of complex networks
Communicate research results in international conferences and journals
Write a doctoral dissertation in Computer Science
Assist in teaching activities
Co-supervise Master and / or Bachelor students

A master degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related field
The candidate should demonstrate a pro-active approach to achieving research excellence
Experience in machine learning and / or formal methods will be considered as an advantage
A proven interest in network analysis
Strong programming skills
Commitment, team working and a critical mind
Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory
