The position holder primary responsibility is to assess and implement / monitor all necessary actions in order to avoid any Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) occurrence to any person involved in our activities.
In the case of an occurrence involving an employee, the position holder has to carry out occurrence investigations, determine the root causes and make effective recommendations in order to prevent a re-occurrence.
In addition, the position holder must maintain the safety reporting database as during and after completion of the investigation.
The position holder shall execute all related tasks and duties of the OHS(E) department ensuring compliance to the Labor code and internal OHSMS.
The position holder shall have the necessary skills to actively lead OHS related projects in line with the required legislation and the strategy of the company.
He / she shall support the Head of OHSE in the planning, implementation and operation of all OHS related tasks. He / she must demonstrate an excellent safety behavior and attitude, with the adherence to regulatory rules and company OHSMS, he / she recognizes and reports hazards and promotes effective and proactive safety reporting.
He / she supports the Department in modelling and promoting an organizational culture that fosters safety practices through effective leadership.
On behalf of the OHS(E) he / she shall :
Carry out on site audit and inspection when trained and qualified in order to guide the Company towards a proactive safety culture
Support / assist the monitoring of corrective actions and safety trends in relation to their area of expertise
Make safety recommendations from investigations to reduce the probability of reoccurrence and consequences of safety incidents
Support / assist all departments in producing safety-related information and guidance in implementing the Company OHSMS
Maintain familiarity with all aspects of the Company’s activities and its personnel
Contribute to the creation and continual development of documented processes and procedures of the OHS(E) department
Must encourage staff that the company OHSMS becomes integrated into the day to day business decision making of their organizational unit
Must encourage staff to abide by and follow the company OHSMS
Ensure compliance of OHS requirements on site at all levels using all available methods of communication
Like any staff member he / she is responsible to report any safety hazard posing a risk to the health and / or safety by using the confidential reporting system in place
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Secondary technical education, accomplished apprenticeship in a technical field or equivalent
At least 3-5 years’ work experience in a Health & Safety department or related field (eg. risk area)
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French
Inquisitive and a good listener, maintain impartiality, able to handle confidential matters
Ability to empathize and know your audience
Feeling comfortable to work in a team as well as autonomously
Methodical and organized way of working
Project management skills
Collection of factual data
High ability for teaming up with the existing team
Basic knowledge of safety management principles and practices
Dealing effectively with complexity and having good problem-solving skills
Strong PC knowledge (MS Office and Outlook) and learning capabilities
Fluency in written and spoken English and French, other languages are a distinct advantage
