We are seeking a full-time engineer to provide support for a Data Visualization Wall (VisWall) located at our Belvaux facilities in Luxembourg.
The VisWall combines the benefits of high resolution display walls with advanced user interaction capabilities including motion tracking, multi-
touch, immersive sound, powered by a potent computer cluster. The VisWall will form part of an overall platform which will also contain a multi-
touch table alongside Augmented and Virtual Reality (VR) systems.
The Engineer contributes to RDI projects through the design, development and improvement of equipment, processes, methods, protocols, technological solutions and / or products.
The Engineer will be incorporated in the Interactive Visualization and Geocomputation group of the Environmental Informatics research unit of the Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department.
He / she will carry out various analyses and experiments in the framework of RDI projects and / or service-delivery activities and ensures the follow-up of equipment.
Manage the daily operation of the VisWall and dedicated computer cluster systems, including hands-on assistance with demonstrations, meetings, scheduling of events, and coordination of resources for end-users
Ensure the system is 100% functional at all times, including preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of hardware and software components as needed
Maintain a high level of attention to detail and clean work environment
Assist with the porting and integration of client's content into the system which may require familiarity with third party software packages (pertaining to full stack programming, computer graphics, augmented and virtual reality) as well as the development of dedicated software
Assist with the creation of content in support of meetings and presentations
Provide training to users and visitors on the capabilities of the system
Work as a member of the team and demonstrate unwavering attention to the success of internal and external clients of the system
Participate in project-related activities
Participate in the drafting of reports, scientific articles or other documents
Contribute to the definition of proofs of concepts and development of prototypes
Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Engineering
Experience with large data visualization systems is highly desired
Experience or technical aptitude to learn to operate / exploit motion tracking and / or multi-touch systems systems is highly desired
Experience with Virtual Reality multi-wall systems is a plus
Experience of Augmented Reality systems is a plus
Experience or ability to learn the skills needed to use modern graphics cards running in a cluster configuration across multiple computers is a plus
Adaptability to new standards and programming / scripting / mark-up languages.
Experience Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Products, or other graphics design tools is a plus
Familiarity with multiple Operating Systems (Windows, Mac, Linux) preferred
Experience with or ability to learn the skills needed for developing and maintaining dynamic application stacks on Linux servers.
Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with researchers and industrial stakeholders in a team-oriented environment.
An organized and methodical approach to problem solving with clear and accurate documentation of results
Familiarity or experience with collaborative commercial or research projects is a plus
English is mandatory, French or German is a plus
